Depression. It Hurts

It is a common fact that most Millennials have a depression stage in there lives or just down right depressed.

And many persons of older generations, especially in Caribbean and Black communities would just pass it off as "We all go through tough times just pray it out."
Huh?

Reality Check: MENTAL ILLNESSES ARE REAL FOR EVERYBODY.

Everybody.

It isn't a white people disease,
Everyone can suffer from it.

Depression hurts and Symbalta might help, but that pill crap and all of it side effects are just killing us off more.

Mental illnesses can be found in any and everyone, not just in persons who suffered "great tragedies and lived the hard life." Sometimes persons who have harder lives than others don't even suffer from mental illnesses.
These things usually appears through genetics or the environment you come from.

Once again a lot of behavior gets passed off as "Oh his/her father or mother was like this, they will get over it." When sometimes the mother and/or father was suffering the same thing, it is just the lack of knowledge and acceptance, they refused to identify it.

Another reality check, it is the 21st Century and when we need help, we have to get help (the right help of course.)

Persons may ask, "Oh if these Millennials are changing the world why are they so sad?"
  1. Many teenagers are dealing with high levels of stress that comes with trying to be a top student and trying to balance as much extra curricular activities. (Maybe that is just me)
  2. Others dealing with poor situations at home. Having to work and struggle to help provide for their families and/or deal with their parents or guardians go at each other necks. Sometimes they don't even have a family to call their own.
  3. Racism. Don't need to explain that.
  4. Bullying. Don't need to explain that as well.
  5. Living through different type of abuse, where it is physically, mentally or emotionally.
  6. Trying hard to be accepted in society. This is a big problem for those who are apart of the LGBT community (BIG UP YA SELF ONE TIME) especially if they are transsexual. The reaction to it can be troubling and man... man. Your emotions and brain can make you feel like the worst person to ever exist on this world. Sadly that feeling leads to a lot of suicides.

At this time we would get the famous answer, "Just Pray on it and God will fix it."

Mental illnesses really deals with the composition of your brain and how you react in certain situations and how your mood or thoughts determine your reactions.

Certain things cannot be 100% cured with a likkle prayer.

Persons who suffer from diseases of higher spectrum like bipolar or schizophrenia, have to go through different routines and even sometimes medication to help sedate themselves or just try to get better.

But I'm not going to lie to you and say that I don't pray to God about my depression and to help me overcome it but prayer alone isn't going to work. (This is for the spiritual and religious folk)

God is legit telling you "Okay. I see your problem and trust me things are going to get better, but you got to work on yourself first bossman."

And then you reply with a simple "I got this. We are going to change these thoughts and we got this."

Then you didn't do anything and wonder why are you still like this. I'm not saying results are going to happen over night, but it is a working progress to get better.

Guys it is okay to be sad, it is all apart of human nature. We just have to work on uplifting ourselves to become positive beings that loves the person we are.

How do you do that? Well....
  1. Find the right circle. So if your family or friends are continuously degrading you or putting negative images in your head, CUT THEM OFF. The people that you surround yourself with should inspire and motivate you to be great and perform at the highest level and the most positive level possible. This way you can give off that same positive energy as well.
  2. Take time off for yourself. This is something I struggle in a lot because I'm the type of always help people and make sure everyone is okay before me. That my friends isn't always good. You have to take time to reflect on what happen in your life, how can you make things better and just trying to find who you are as individual. It is a long process but it is worth it.
  3. Take social media breaks. Social Media is great but it is also overbearing. Social Media breaks is important to help clear your mind from all the random and weird information your brain took in from just scrolling down your timeline.
  4. Meditate. Meditation is a great tool, to help find peace within yourself. I'm not great at it and I struggle to just think about one thing at one time, but it is a learning process. So Meditate.

Just remember: Life is full of obstacles. There will always be roadblocks that you have to overcome to reach to your destination. You are not alone in this journey called life and if you put your mind to it you can achieve it.
